Dyna-Ski Standard Equipment & Options

People ask for prices often in the first email or two.  I tell them it is not an easy answer so I give a typical price and range. There really is no upper limit.  So to try and make this process easier for all of us I put together this information.  As our boat business grows and the market changes there seem to be new options every week.  When in doubt ask.  There are no dumb questions.  With custom made to order boats the sky is really the limit as well as your pocket book.  The cost of some options depends upon other things on the boat which is hard to easily explain so I don't include prices because they vary so much and suppliers increase them often.  Ordering a Dyna-Ski Boat usually takes around 40 emails by the time we are done.  Once we have a solid base of your desires we can start coming up with a firm price and then when we nail down what you want the price will be firm unless you change your mind while the boat is being built.  Customers do this sometimes. People have waited up to four years to purchase a Dyna-Ski boat from when they decided on all the options and then they are surprised when the price is much higher.  Everything we build goes up every year.  No supplier ever goes down in cost to us.  With interest rates being fairly low, buying the boat sooner (and paying reasonable interest rates) rather than later will save you more money than the increases in prices from year to year.  I hope this statement makes sense. Plus you start enjoying the boat sooner rather than later.
Interior space & people capacity:
The 17.6 Open Bow has the same passenger seating area as the 20’ Open Bow but it lacks the massive storage space of the 20’ Open Bow and passenger space of the 20’ Barefooter Open Bow. The 17.6 Open Bow is US Coast Guard rated for 5 people. Both 20' Open Bows are US Coast Guard rated for 7 people.
Standard Equipment:
Dyna-Ski 17.6 Open Bow has a two color hull, the two color interior, drivers bucket seat, passenger bench or bucket seat, standard rear bench seat, boarding platform with ladder, Teleflex tilt Hydraulic steering*, Recessed Control, 3" GPS Speedometer and 3” Tachometer, 2" fuel, trim, water pressure and voltmeter, High Efficiency cables, motor wiring, oil tank with one gallon of oil, $25.00 of gasoline, battery, 4 bladed stainless steel prop also includes mounting the motor and water testing if possible on a new black custom welded Phoenix bunk trailer with full length center bunks, bow stops, vertical side guides, four bunks and swing tongue.
*The hydraulic steering can be changed for non feedback steering which is less expensive if a non V-6 engine is put on a 17.6 Open Bow.
Dyna-Ski 20' Open Bow has a two color hull, the two color interior, drivers bucket seat, passenger bench or bucket seat, standard rear bench seat, boarding platform with ladder, Teleflex tilt Hydraulic steering, Recessed Control, 3" GPS Speedometer and 3” Tachometer, 2" fuel, trim, water pressure and voltmeter gauges, High Efficiency cables, motor wiring, oil tank with one gallon of oil, $25.00 of gasoline, battery, 4 bladed stainless steel prop also includes mounting the motor and water testing if possible on a new black custom welded Phoenix bunk trailer with full length center bunks, bow stops, vertical side guides, four bunks, swing tongue and surge brakes.
Dyna-Ski 20' Open Bow Barefooter has a two color hull, the two color interior, drivers bucket seat, passenger bench or bucket seat, standard rear bench seat, boarding platform with ladder, Teleflex tilt Hydraulic steering, Recessed Control, 3" GPS Speedometer and 3” Tachometer, 2" fuel, trim, water pressure and voltmemter gauges, High Efficiency cables, motor wiring, oil tank with one gallon of oil, $25.00 of gasoline, battery, 4 bladed stainless steel prop also includes mounting the motor and water testing if possible on a new black custom welded Phoenix bunk trailer with full length center bunks, bow stops, vertical side guides, four bunks, swing tongue and surge brakes.
The Barefooter does not have a sun deck so there is more interior space than the 20’ Dyna-Ski Open Bow.
Engine capacity:
17.6 Open Bow is US Coast Guard rated for a maximum of a 150 HP engine.  We rate the 20' Open Bow models for a 250 HP engine. Maximum horsepower engines will push the boats faster than you need to barefoot water ski. Dyna-Ski Boats are not go fast boats they are water ski boats with tracking fins for stability.

Engines:  Evinrude E-Tech and Mercury Optimax are both two cycle (stroke) engines and cost about the same in the end.  I suggest you purchase the brand of motor you can easily get serviced locally.  The motor is really the only piece of the boat that should ever need service. We do not have much call for other brands of engines (I assume) because of the additional cost.
Engine options:
Evinrude G2 Engines
Mercury Four Stroke Verado Engines
Power Assist for the hydraulic steering.  Often added to multiple engine Dyna-Ski Boats.
Evinrude G2 engines come standard with electronic controls. Power assist hydraulic steering is available on the G2 engine.
I-CONN Digital Controls & Engine Monitoring for V-6 Evinrude Motors (Digital Throttle & Shift)
SmartCraft Digital Controls & Engine Monitoring (Digital Throttle & Shift) for Mercury 175 and larger Verado Motors. This option can be ordered and is very similar to a Perfect Pass system they claim.
Colors:
Dyna-Ski Boats hulls are usually white with an accent stripe.  The deck is usually white.  The top color choice is a red stripe although blue and black are gaining market share.  An all white Dyna-Ski boat costs a little less than one with a colored stripe. A solid color other than white costs more money. Boats that are mainly white seem to not show their age or be dated by the color.  Boats that are colors other than white tend to be dated by the color chosen.  Our graphics supplier can do boat wraps but wraps tend to only hold up for a couple years.
Single color hull
Two Color hull (standard is white with a colored stripe)
Three Color hull
Metallic Colors
Additional Boarding Platform
Ladder for additional Boarding Platform
Interiors:
Single Color Interior
Two Color Interior (standard)
Three Color Interior
Wrap Around Rear Seating  (a straight rear bench seat is standard)
Covers & Tops:
Snap On Bow Cover
Snap On Cock Pit Cover
Mooring Cover
Bimini Tops
Other water ski accessories:
KW Motor Guard
KW Trick Release
Barefoot International V-Drive Boom
Barefoot Boom Extension  (one or two of these are excellent for Dyna-Ski Boats with the rear mounted pylon)
Barefoot Boom Height Adjuster (makes possible quick adjustments of the height of the barefoot boom)
KW Extended Pylon (replaces the stock Dyna-Ski Pylon)
Barefoot International w2923 Tower
Barefoot International  w2906 Board Racks
Sound Equipment:
We can do AM/FM radios, power amps and such but I always suggest that you do them yourself or have a local shop do them.  Sound equipment is the biggest source of problems in boats so having a local supplier is best I feel.  There are locations for speakers and we can run wires if you like.
Trailers:
If you live on a lake and only use your trailer for off season storage the bow stops and vertical side guides can be eliminated but the savings are slight.
Tandem Trailer for a 20' Open Bow painted black with brakes on one axle with bow stops and vertical side guides.  Tandem trailers are harder to push around the driveway and in the garage.
Galvanized trailers are available for salt water use.
Weights:
We put the 17.6 Open Bow on a 2800 lbs capacity trailer*. The 17.6 Open Bow boats seem to be fine on a 2000 lbs capacity lift.  The 20' Open Bows get a 3000 lbs capacity trailer with brakes.  A 2500 lbs capacity lift works decent for the single motored 20' boats.  It is better to have to excess lift or trailer capacity than to be undersized.  *A 2800 lbs capacity trailer is the weight capacity on the trailer with the length we need for the 17.6 model. A trailer with less weight capacity is shorter, to short.  There is little if any additional cost for the excess trailer capacity.

How to purchase a Dyna-Ski Boat Revised

Dyna-Ski 17.6 Open Bow with a three color interior

It seemed obvious to me that if you want to buy a Dyna-Ski Boat the best way to do it is email or call Dyna-Ski Boats at any time.
Email: info@dyna-ski.com or call 715-854-7501.
I have learned that people are not used to contacting the manufacturer directly and actually talking, emailing or texting with the person that owns the company about what they are interested in.  Dyna-Ski owners are all over the world so you can get a Dyna-Ski Boat if you want one.
Every Dyna-Ski boat is custom made for the owner.
I seldom have a new boat on hand as the owners want them right away although I try to build a demo or two every year.  Often times the demo gets sold before it hits the water as a demo.

I have learned that it is better to look thru the information on this blog first, get some ball park pricing and then decide how you want your Dyna-Ski built. The blog has answers to questions and information that people have asked me about over the years and continue to ask every year.  The most expensive options are wrap around seating and digital shift and throttle which are both popular.  I wish that it had a better way to index the information other than by the date the posts are written. Sorry.

Some shoppers inquire about used Dyna-Ski or left over boats.  There are not any left overs or non currents as dealers and manufacturers often call them.  It is not common for owners to sell their Dyna-Ski or even their old Hydrodynes.  Keep in mind that Hydrodynes were last built in the early 1990's.  Often the boats are given to the kids or sold to a neighbor and seldom does anyone inform Dyna-Ski that their boat is for sale.  If a used Dyna-Ski is available they tend to command top dollar and sell quickly during the boating season. We build Dyna-Ski water ski boats, Recon fishing boats, skiffs and air boats at the boat shop in Iola, WI. We are building more and more every year.  It is hard to guarantee exactly when a boat will be finished because we are a small company as boat builders go and most suppliers are not good.  Boats are built in the order that is determined by when the deposit arrives.  We do our best to keep the stuff we need to build boats in stock and we now have a much larger facility so hopefully things will improve.  Suppliers have grown awful over the past 3 to 5 years and they don't seem to care.

The best way to get it rolling is to contact me (Pete) at info@dyna-ski.com or call 715-854-7501 and leave a message.   I reply typically within a day often the same day so if you have not gotten an email check your spam folder.  I am not glued to my phone (yet).  It is OK to send multiple emails or call multiple times. Remember that email is not 100% and voice mail isn't either plus there is the human element (me) so there is a chance I didn't get your message or I misplaced it.  I talk to many people in a week about the same things (Dyna-Ski Boats).  I prefer email as this provides a paper trail but even email isn't perfect.  I often return calls from my cell phone which I also text from.  If I get a call on my cell phone I answer it unless I cannot talk in which case I will call you back when I have time to talk.  715-854-7501 is not a cell phone so don't waste your time texting this number.

Dyna-Ski Boats builds some very unique products.  Our boats are built strong and we use the same materials and techniques to build every Dyna-Ski Boat. There isn't as much material (weight) in the Open Bow boats as there is required in the 20' Closed Bow model unless you want to order your boat this way.

The fastest way to send money to Dyna-Ski is to overnight a personal check using the post office.  Wire Transfers take your bank and mine time to process them plus the banks charge more than the post office.  I like to help keep the Post Office in business. You should not require a signature because no one is usually in the home office when the mail person comes and my mail box is 500' from the house which means it does not work out well.  Often times the mail person will put the overnight envelope in my door.  Given the rural location of my house/office on Lake Noquebay in Wisconsin there isn't anyone around to swipe my mail.

What are you waiting for?

Bimini Top, Mooring Cover & Shrink Wrapped

More and more people are asking about a Bimini Top.  The Boat Shop just finished up a Bimini Top and Mooring Cover for a 17.6 Open Bow headed to Malaysia.  The pictures were supplied by the talented person that does the work. Christine is very good as are all the members of the hard working crew. The best fitting Bimini tops and best fitting covers are made for the actual boat and fitted onto the actual boat. That isn't to say that accessories cannot be made and shipped but boats do vary slightly and that slight difference might come into play getting the very best fit plus we don't always have a boat available to make the cover and test it on.  None of our boat covers or Bimini tops are made from patterns.
